Situated on the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel is known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history. Some fun facts about Carmel by-the-Sea are they do not have street addresses! The founding fathers of this charming town refused to be "citified" and till this day this little town holds up to those standards. Another fact about this gem is that you need a permit to wear high heels on the streets! This law was passed in 1920 reason being that the town wanted to avoid being sued due to irregular pavement throughout its streets caused by tree roots, etc.. Do not fear ladies! The permit is Convienetely free of charge, and you may pick one up at Carmel City Hall.
